Endpapers

This series is anchored back to the physical objects of the books themselves that show the human races and interactions with such editions over the years. Having borrowed a set of encyclopaedia’s from an antiquarian book seller I identified these end papers as a further way of exploring the physicality of the book in the face of increasing online access. Inside each of the encyclopaedias at the start and finish are the hand marbled end pages pasted in which cover the book boards and add a unique touch to each book. The thing that particularly caught my interest was, where at various times there would have been a label inside saying this book belonged to or was held by, these had been cut out and hand pasted over with not quite matching paper giving a clue to the books journey from one owner to another. These telling a similar story to the one Wooldridge suggests in his text regarding my Support Structures:
They reveal not specific use, but an accumulation of traces, similar to the apparition-like marks of an invigilator against a gallery’s white wall over an exhibitions long run. They reveal therefore, a deep history…
